I won’t be going to see Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
As a kid, I was a huge Star Wars fan. I loved the original movie. The second Star Wars film (number 5 in the series) was okay at best. At least in my opinion. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was better than the second but still couldn’t hold a candle to the first.
As a kid, I bought bubble gum trading cards and anything else I could find and could weedle the money out of my parents to get that had to do with Star Wars.
I should say, young children and movies.
I can understand a parent wanting to go out and see the latest action/horror/whatever movie. What I can’t understand is a parent thinking that it’s quite okay to take their 4 year old child to see the same movie.
Today I went to see a movie near the end of its run. It was an action/horro movie with a lot of gore and violence. It had so much gore, bad language, and violence that it was rated R. It also sucked, but that’s beside the point.
Two rows behind me I hear the voice of a child. When I looked behind me I saw that this child was no older than 3. This child should not have been in the theater watching this movie. The theater had other movies that would have been appropriate to see with a young child (Are We There Yet?, Racing Stripes). Alone in the Dark was not an appropriate movie for any child to see.
Just once I wish that people who take their young children to horror movies, or to movies late at night would stop and think. Think about the people who have to put up with their children’s screams and talking. Think about the people who have to put up with their children’s cranky behavior because it’s past their bedtime.
Just once I wish these people would think about their children. Movies aren’t rated R for no reason. A 3 year old is bound to have nightmares about creatures that come out of the dark and kill you before you can see them.
I went out with some friends tonight. We did what we usually did when we go out on Friday nights; dinner and a movie. Yeah, we’re a wild bunch.
Tonight’s movie was Hide and Seek. Don’t worry, I won’t give it away.
This is a movie that I might have to go see again. Not because I think it’s great, but because I’m not sure I’ve got it figured out. Also, I might have to see it again to see if it’s more like The Sting or The Sixth Sense.
The Sting is one of my all time favorite movies. Every time I see if I enjoy it immensely. I also see things I’ve missed or had forgotten about. I also liked The Sixth Sense, but it’s not one of my favorites. That movie doesn’t hold slight nuances that I didn’t catch the first time. The biggest reason it doesn’t hold them is because the director, M. Night Shyamalan, showed you what you missed after he let his secret out.
Personally, I wouldn’t have done all the flash backs to scenes that seemed normal at the time but really weren’t. The second time I saw the movie I knew what to look for. I didn’t have the chance to try and piece it together myself.
I’m not sure if Hide and Seek will end up with The Sting (a intriguing movie I like to watch again and again) or The Sixth Sense (a intriguing movie but once was enough). I’ll have to watch it again to find out.
Now I have a question for you. Your answer may help me remember the name of another movie I like that would fall into The Sting’s group.
What movies do you like that have really made you think about what happened? Movies that had a twist you weren’t expecting. Or movies that you watch again and again and see something new each time.
Have you ever watched a movie several times before you realized an important detail?
I was watching The Matrix tonight and I suddenly realized that the the ship wasn’t in water. DUH! When I watched the second and third parts I figured that they just forgot. Watching it tonight I realized that if it had been in water the people would have drowned.
