I have a new computer

It actually arrived on Wednesday.  I’ve spent the last couple of days setting things up.  I still have things that need to be set up but I’m making good progress.

It’s great to be back online.  Not having access was killing me.

I got a Dell 530s.  So far I love just about everything about it.  Vista, though, will take some getting used to.

I was tossed offline by a nasty virus delivered through a sneaky trojan.  The trojan looked like a legitimate microsoft virus warning.  It slipped right past my Norton 360 security program.  That damn program didn’t pick up the trojan and it didn’t pick up the virus the thing leashed on my computer.

Needless to say, I no longer use Norton at all.  I’m also going to email them about this issue and ask for my money back.

If this pops up on your computer

trogan

do not click on “Enable Protection” or “Click to download and activate protection.”  Just delete the damn thing.  If you click on either item it will load the virus to your computer.  This is a nasty one, folks.  You don’t want it on your computer.

Forced internet vacation

My computer picked up a nasty virus last week.  I have very, very, very limited access to the net right now.  I’m putting this up from a different computer.

Since my computer is/was over 3 years old and it would cost more to fix it than it’s worth I’ve ordered a new computer from Dell.  I ordered it yesterday and it’s already been shipped.  I should have it by the end of the week.

Once I get the new computer all set up I’ll write more about what happened to the old computer.

Artie still needs a coat

I took my dog Artie to try on coats today.  It was a very discouraging trip for me.

As I wrote earlierArtie is getting old and has lost weight so she gets cold much more easily these days.  Without Artie I bought a couple of large sweaters.  They didn’t fit.

Today, with Artie I tried an X-large coat and sweater.  They were long enough, but didn’t fit her in the chest.

Grrr!

What she needs is something that is adjustable.  Something that closes with a strap to get around that monster size chest she seems to have.

Online seems to be my best option.  So far I’ve found a coat that would be perfect for $90 and a coat that might be good for between $30 and $35.

There’s no way I’m paying $90 (before taxes and shipping) for a coat for my dog.  I’m leery about the other coat simply because I don’t want to get something that might not be as adjustable as I want.  I also don’t want to buy something I’ll just have to send back.

Does anyone reading this have any suggestions for a good, adjustable coat that I could find online?

Buy Nothing Day

About 10 years ago I braved the crowds on Black Friday.  It was a horrible experience.  The crowds are enormorus and I quickly got tired of being pushed and shoved while I shopped.

I was frazzled and frustrated by the time I headed home.  I had also spent more than I planned, mostly so I could finish and get away from the crowds.

I vowed never to go out shopping on Black Friday again.  So far I’ve kept that vow.

Today I’m participating in Buy Nothing Day.

Now I haven’t been perfect in my observance of Buy Nothing Day.  I broke a nail (my one girly trait) and had to get it fixed today.  I also bought lunch at a fast food place because I forgot I was only going to pay for fixing my nails.  For the rest of the day, however, I will buy noting.

Why don’t you join me?

My dog needs a coat

Artie has always had a thin coat.  She’s also practically bare on her stomach.  She may be part lab but her coat comes from her greyhound side.

Because she’s getting old and having some health concerns, she’s lost some weight.  Without the extra insulation, she shivers more which expends energy which contributes to her weight loss.

Vicious cycle.

Yesterday I went to the pet store to buy a sweater for Artie.  I had measured her so I figured I’d be good without out her with me.

I was wrong.

What I bought doesn’t fit her.  I got the large size which should fit but just doesn’t quite fit.  She’s just a bit too big in some spots for the large size, and probably too small for the X-L size.

Curse

So, now I’ll take them back. I’ll take her with me and see if the (very few) X-L size sweaters they have will fit.

It’s cold (for Florida) today, but it will be warmer tomorrow through next Tuesday.  That gives me time to figure out what to do if they don’t.  I’ve been looking on-line without much luck finding the size I need.

It’s discouraging.
