I was listening to NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” online today and I heard the best analogy to use with those who defend torture.
The person who came up with it was Tom Bodett. He said that defending torture was like accusing a shoplifter of stealing and the shoplifter saying “Wall, call it what you want but look at all this great stuff I got.”

it must be getting late, because i can’t connect defending torture and the shoplifting thing in my mind — but i will definitely have a think about that tomorrow. hehe

Basically, people defend torture saying we got good information from it (which has never been proven) so it’s good. It’s the same as a shoplifter saying he got good stuff from shoplifting so shoplifting is good.
