George Carlin died last night of heart failure. He was 71.

I never got to see Carlin perform in person. When he came to Orlando I remember having a prior obligation so I missed seeing him perform.

In 1978, Carlin ended up in a court battle in front of the Supreme Court over his “Seven Words” routine. The Supreme Court ruled that the routine was indecent, but Carlin continued to perform the routine. As a result, he was arrested several times. All of the cases were dismissed.

Here’s that routine

George Carlin is my hero. What a classic bit these are. He did more for language and hypocrisy than anyone else has ever donee.

George Carlin’s skit on “stuff” is classic too!  There a few comediennes who say profane words for the sake of saying it, but Carlin always had something to go along with those words.  Often they were biting commentary of the hypocrisy involved…his prespective and wit will be missed!

He is my favourite comic, my partners too. We will both miss him. There have been a lot of comics who have followed in his style, but none quite as well or with quite the same flare and perspective

Truly sad. I think he was one of the most original thinkers out there. He rarely failed to make me laugh at myself.
