This is just strange

And also very sad.

In Zagreb, Croatia the mummified remains of a woman were found in her apartment.  It’s estimated she’d been dead for 35 years.

35 years!!!

Sadly, no one had ever reported the woman, Hedviga Golik, missing.  Given that, it is not surprising that no one has come to claim her body.

It’s entirely possible that Golik’s body would still be lying in her bed if her neighbors hadn’t decided to break into her apartment.

Just why did they break into her apartment?  Well, her neighbors had decided they should live in the apartment instead of Golik.  I’m not sure if space is such a commodity in Croatia, but considering that the woman hadn’t been seen in 35 years and was thought to be abroad, I can understand her neighbors wondering why the apartment was possibly sitting empty.  Breaking in to take it for themselves?  Well, that’s going a bit too far.

Still, if they hadn’t broken into the apartment, no one would know that Golik was dead.

Questions still remain about who owned the apartment and continued to pay the bills for 35 years.  When Golik died, the apartments were state owned, but they aren’t now.  Also, why did no one notice the smell?  Even with the windows open, someone should have noticed the smell 35 years ago.

I find that to be really sad. Dead for 35 years and no one even notices….

I read about this the other day and also thought it was sooo sad that no one seemed to miss this woman for that long. I’m not sure what exactly that says about the world in general, but I’m sure it’s not good. Shock
