Blocking spam

I've been getting a lot of spam comments lately. Sad, really, because that's just about the only type of comments I've been getting. Confused

I know that's my own fault because I haven't been writing much lately. However, I'm tired of seeing all the spam comments. Most have been caught by Askimet and SpamKarma but not all.

In an attempt to draw down the amount of spam comments without moderating all comments, I'm trying out a new plug-in called WP Captcha-Free. We'll see if it makes a dent.

Yea~ You will never go wrong with the Wordpress Plugin , Askimet. I have a little guide on setting it up on my site as well.

It sucks, really. But Askimet works wonders! I'm sure you will see the difference after acitvating the plugin. LOL

How is WP Captcha-Free working out for you?

Pretty good, actually.  I went from about 200 spam comments a day to 3.  I was getting so much spam that I didn't even try going through the spam comments to see if any were legit.  With only 3 comments flagged as spam today it was easy to check them.  One was a legit comment, one was legit but just crass so I deleted it, and one was spam.

Good luck with the spam comments problem. Not only is the high volume of spam a problem, but not enough real people leave real comments, even just to say "hi." It would seem worth it if the high volume of spam coming in was just a fraction of the number of real comments, but at least in my case, spam outways real comments 10 or 20 to 1. Anyhow, good luck.

There does seem to be an uptick of the spam bots lately, but this happens every time there's an economic downturn. I'm not surprised.
