Gone Total Beeatch
Sorry, but it is now more possible for any comments you leave to be put into moderation. I've been getting over 100 spam comments and ping-backs a day. Neither Askimet, nor Spam Karma were catching them all.
The comments weren't the big problem. Most of the spam comments were being caught. The problem was ping-backs.
At least 2 (often more) were getting through every day. Grrrrrrr!
Askimet is nice and all, but it doesn't do much in regards to the ping-backs. That's why I also use Spam Karma 2. I can at least tweak Spam Karma to be pretty harsh in regards to hit and run commenters (typically bots that are on the site for a second or two before tossing up a comment) and ping-backs.
If you, a real live person, leaves a comment and it doesn't pop up then it got flagged and put in for moderation. Sorry about that. You can feel comfortable knowing that once I get home from work and see that you are a real live person than I'll approve your comment.
Of course, ping-backs are a sign of content theft. I recently read about two plugins that help combat content theft. They are AntiLeech Splog Stopper and Digital Fingerprint were both highly regarded by the writer for dealing with content theft. Does anyone use any of these? Do you think they work well? Do they cause any problems with you rss feed?

I hate spam comments and actually send all comments through moderation, but I don't agree with you on Ping-backs
If I quote another blog for one of my posts, I always ping back as a way of showing respect for the original poster. I also think of it as a way of citing sources. I still moderate them, but I don't consider them theft.

Akismet and Spam Karma have always sucked when it comes to that. Get yourself the bad behavior plugin as well as turning off your pingbacks for now and maybe even peters custom comment spam captcha thing. Then you have the wp-ban plugin you could use too for the ones that are repeat offenders you can just ban the IP.

Andy,
I'm not talking about all ping-backs. I'm talking about those often start out "Check it out! While looking through the blogosphere we stumbled on an interesting post today.
Here’s a quick excerpt" The "excerpt" ends up being the entire post.
This was a pingback that was in moderation when I got home from work today. The blog in question was actually a splog or spam blog. I went to the site and checked it out before tossing the pingback into the spam bin. The very first thing you see on that blog is a large ad. Also every single other post on that site went along the lines mine. The owner of the blog doesn't have to do anything for this site. It has a program that strips the information off of a RSS feed to use it to sell ads.
I don't consider it theft when someone quotes me as part of a larger post. That is only common courtesy.
