Yep, I’m still here.
I’m very, very busy at work. Typically when I get home I can’t pull a cohesive thought out of my head.
If all goes well the pace at work should ease up about the second or third week of October.
In the meantime, I do have a quote to put up for the person who left a comment on the cartoon I put up for “6 years later.” It comes from Sinclair Lewis and pertains to the idea that we should all wrap ourselves up in the flag. It doesn’t specifically point out that blind patriotism is dangerous but it does imply the danger.

Let me tell you about fascism, dear. I grew up under it. Except in Vietnam, where I experienced it, it didn't go by that name. And I floated on a bamboo raft all the way to Hong Kong to get away from it.
Any American who fears that fascism will come visiting under Christian signs or symbols is seriously deluded. Who is it that's trying to shut down freedom of expression today? Who is it that wants to regulate all of life, most minutely? Who is it that wants to insert government into every last decision Americans make, from the choices they make about health care to the way they educate their children? It's not Christians, and it's not conservatives or patriots. It's your compatriots on the Left!

That has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with blindly following a leader or party.
As for who is shutting down freedom of expression today? Well, the current administration established “free speech” areas and would love to shut down any outlet that doesn’t agree with their stance. Who is trying to regulate all of life? Which party keeps pushing for laws regulating what companies decide to recognize as partners or what individual states recognize?
What party and president so proudly points to No Child Left Behind as the best way to educate children? A law that forces states and school systems to rely on high stakes testing to regulate schools for a drop in the bucket of funding for these regulations?
It seems from your comments that the only “patriots” that can exist in this country are those that blindly follow the president.Those that say, “Go ahead! Do whatever you want! We are soooo terrified of the bogyman that we’ll agree to anything you say! We won’t question a thing! We’ll be good patriots!” All the time forgetting that the people that constantly talk about the bogyman and hyping fear are the ones they are blindly following over the cliff.
Being a patriot doesn’t mean that you blindly follow your leaders. If it did we would still be under British rule.

My mother was brought up in Germany, and remembers those who blindly followed because the booogie man, the Commies, were going to annihilate them all… So learn from history. open your mind… oh, sorry, can't do that, right?
