For the students, that is.
This year I won’t be helping direct students to their classrooms. Nor will I help with registration. I will need to get to work by 7:10 in the morning. That’s about 10 minutes after I typically got up last year.
This first week I need to get there before 7:10 just because traffic will be so bad in the morning. I’ve figured out which route I’ll be taking, though, to limit my time stuck in traffic trying to turn into the school.
There are two main highways that I can take that will bring me to the school. My new high school is actually on a road that connects both of the main highways. Even though mileage wise the trip should be about the same, there is a 2 mile difference. There is also a distinct advantage to using one of those highways in the morning and heading home on the other highway in the afternoon.
The two highways I’m talking about are John Young Parkway and Orange Blossom Trail (OBT). OBT is a pretty straight shot over the area which I would be traveling. John Young curves out one way and then back in the other more than once. That means that taking John Young actually adds two miles to my trip.
In the morning, OBT is fairly light on traffic. Many of the business and shops along that road are not open at that time. I also have it on good authority that it is better to approach the school from OBT in the mornings because traffic backs up significantly on the side coming from John Young.
In the afternoon, however, OBT is a bitch to drive down. The Florida Mall and all the other business and shops are open and cars are abundant. Even though John Young adds two miles to my driving distance, it takes less time to traverse that highway than OBT.
It’s nice to have my routes worked out. It doesn’t help deal with the extra early wake up call that I’ll have this school year.

I hope the year goes well and I hope you get out earlier to make up for early arrival.

I can't WAIT for next monday! We have one week to go until Mom can take a shower in peace. Until Mom can clean up and have it stay that way for a few hours. Until mom can go a morning without saying "STOP FIGHTING!!!"
