1. Well, I’m done updating plugins for tonight. No, I didn’t get through all of them but I got through at least half.

I’ve decided that I have way too many plugins and there are several that I’m not really using. As I’ve gone along I’ve been deleting plugins that I wasn’t using. Usually it’s no big deal but every now and then it causes issues.

Sometimes I miss problems because I’m logged into the blog. I do check in another web browser, though. Just in case I missed something, please let me know if something isn’t working correctly.

2. You’ll notice that you can now edit your comments for up to 5 minutes after you first submit them. That will allow you to fix any typos or add something if you want. I first saw a similar feature on A Feast of Crumbs and was toying with the idea of having the same feature. I doubt I have the same plugin that he’s been using.

The plugin is called WP Ajax Edit Comments if you have a WordPress blog and are interested in having this feature.

I think 5 minutes would be plenty but I’m could be swayed to raise it to 10 minutes if people think that would be best.

3. I spent a lot of time tonight trying to find a plugin that would add a format bar to the comments area. Nothing to fancy, just a simple bar that would have a button for bold, italic, and links would be enough. I couldn’t find anything. Does anyone know if there is a WordPress plugin out there that would add such a bar to the comments area?

TinyMCEComments might do the trick for you. I’ve heard it has problems with Akismet though, but haven’t confirmed it.

I’ve never used the kind of format bar you’re taking about (I don’t even use the one in the post editor), but I think maybe you’re looking for something like Quicktags Reloaded. I don’t have any feedback on how it works, but the author seems to be talking about WordPress 2.2 compatibility and that post is very recent.

You’re right that that isn’t the same comment editing plugin as the one I’m using. I’m in the process of overhauling mine.

Thanks for the information, guys. I’ll check into both of them.

Joe, when WP first incorporated TinyMCE into their format I hated it. It didn’t work smoothly and if you went to html to fix a problem it would cause all kinds of additional problems.

I decided to try it again when I upgraded to the latest version of WP. Somewhere along the line the TinyMCE editor has been greatly improved. It’s very easy to flip back and forth between TinyMCE and the original format. Matter of fact, I did it while writing this very post to put in the tags. I never have figured out how to do the tags a different way.

Eh. I’m still not a fan of TinyMCE. But then, I’m an ubergeek.

Thanks, Ronald. I went with the one you recommended. It looks better than the one you recommended, Joe.

Yes, I’m all about looks. Shallow, I know. Grin

Hey, no worries. I don't have hurt feelings or anything. Is it installed now? I don't see anything different.

It's working for me on Firefox (where I'm signed into the blog) and IE (where I'm a "visitor"Wink.  Maybe reloading the page will make it appear for you.
