I just finished upgrading to WordPress 2.1. All in all in took less than 90 minutes to upgrade and checkout all the plugins. Only twothree aren’t working correctly.

One of the twothree, WP-UserOnline 2.06 doesn’t surprise me. I had to tweak the database and the plugin just to get it to run correctly when I updated the plugin to 2.06. The otherAnother one, Category Visibility .31 does surprise me but I’ll either figure it out or change the about me section. I only have that one because way back at WP 1 something I did the about me section using a category to create it. I use the Category Visibility plugin to hide that category. I can just re-do the About Me section as a page and then I won’t need the plugin. It might be easier to do as well.

Update: The last one was the Subscribe to Comments. I didn’t catch it because I didn’t try to actually place a comment when I was checking out the plugins. Kyle pointed it out for me. I’ll eventually get them all worked out.

Just not today.

One very nice aspect of WordPress 2.1 is the auto save feature. As I’ve been typing this it has automatically been saved at least twice. Hopefully that means that I will never have to worry about typing up a post only to lose it to a power outage or my own clumsy fingers ever again.

I need to run some errands right now but I plan on playing around with this a bit more later. Maybe while I’m doing my laundry.

2/12/07 Update
Subscribe to Comments and WP-UserOnline have been updated to the most recent versions and are working fine.

Yeah, I am pretty happy about the Auto-Save feature as well.

Wow, Laura, in my circle you would be considered a total techie. Have you gotten the computer system at your school up and running yet?

Other than having to tweak my templates around to get the effects I prefer, I’ve been pretty satisfied with 2.1’s performance so far. There are a few little glitches I hope they’ll address on the admin side, such as reinstating the link to scroll past the 15 most recent posts.

I’d also like to get rid of the ridiculous “Hello Dolly” plugin, but it doesn’t want to die the death (grin).

I’ve got a customized version of Subscribe to Comments 2.1 I can share with you if you like. I’ve modified a few of the link strings for better XHTML compliance and added a cookie feature so each commenter’s subscription preference is remembered.

I’m thinking about sending that cookie feature on to the developer to see if he wants it.

Also, Lester has a newer, 2.1 compatible version of WP-UserOnline available.

Joefish, Thanks for the information. I’ll have to get get the newer one. If it doesn’t work right I’ll get back to you about the one you have.

Bruce, I deleted the “Hello Dolly” plugin from my cpanel. That got rid of the plugin. Since I did the update by hand, I just didn’t bother to upload it yesterday.

Jan, No way. You couldn’t get me near the school’s technology problems (there are many) with a 10 foot pole. I have enough work to do without add that to the list.

Kyle, Thanks again for pointing out the Subscribe to comments problem.
