I felt like titling this “Give Me A Break!” but decided to go with the title above. I would love to say that this news surprises me but it doesn’t. Not in this day and age.
According to the Associated Press
Granada America has optioned the film rights to a New York Times article on Lisa Nowak, 43, who was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder.
Nowak, a Navy captain and mother of three, wore diapers during her trip so she wouldn’t have to stop for bathroom breaks. Once in Orlando, she confronted Colleen Shipman, whom she believed was involved in a relationship with Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein, a space shuttle pilot.
Here we go, another cheesy made-for-tv movie that is full of melodrama and lacks real substance. The company has said this might end up as a feature but I don’t see how they could pull it off.
David Gyngell is the CEO for Granada America. He’s quoted as saying this about Nowak’s story
The chronicle of Lisa Marie Nowak has had a global impact and contains almost every dramatic element possible. One could not imagine a more compelling story.
I can think of a dozen. There’s even one with a female astronaut that happened at roughly the same time as the events surrounding Nowak.
Sunita Williams is a U.S. astronaut who is currently part of the current space shuttle mission. On Sunday she set a woman’s spacewalking record for the most time spent spacewalking. Sunday, Williams completed a 7 hour spacewalk to upgrade the international space station’s cooling system. At the end of that walk she had accumulated a total of record of 22 hours and 27 minutes spacewalking.
Yesterday Williams added 6 hours and 40 minutes to her record for a current total of 29 hours and 7 minutes.
I’d much rather see a made-for-tv about Sunita Williams than about Nowak. Nowak’s story reminds me of a badly written romance novel. Williams story can be inspiring for everyone, especially for young girls.
Hat tip to Joefish over at A Feast of Crumbs for pointing out that there was another female astronaut that should have been on the front pages this week.

That’s one movie I won’t see and I think the title “Give me a break” for your post – or as part of the title – would have been appropriate. The sad part is that the same people who are going gaga over the Anna Nicole Smith painful saga are the ones who will be looking forward to watching the “true story” about this “Lust in Space” mess.

It is sad that women who are sleazy, trashy, stupid, or diapered get more attention than women who achieve.I can’t even imagine watching an actual movie about this ridiculous set of events.

It’s not surprising there’s a book or movie considering how this story has so much media attention. It was bound to happen.
