We’ve all heard the phrase “Beauty is only skin deep” before. Currently, though, only Dove has bucked the trend of beauty products et. al. to use waif thin models to sell their products. At least in the United States.
With all the emphasis on being tall, thin, and yet having a large bust, is it any wonder that eating disorders are on the rise?
Dove has a created a pretty eye opening 1 minute movie that shows just how shallow external beauty really can be in this day and age.
Click on the picture below to see how the woman in the picture goes from the image on the right to the one on the left.
That link takes you to Dove’s Canadian web site. The same ad can be found on the U.S. website but the Canadian site’s image is full screen and the U.S. image is not.

I came across the video for the above image on another blog and showed it to my 10 year old daughter. It is a real eye opener and I am happy that Dove has chosen to try and break people’s warped sense of beauty. It may save lives.
Cheers from Toronto!

part of me wishes I could do such “magic” on photoshop but another part of me thinks I’d just be supporting the whole thing and I don’t want to do that… I saw this link on another blog as well.

Still a very pretty woman without the photoshop in my opinion. Why do publishers feel the need to make such drastic changes? As for the waif look, I never got it. Most men don’t like it and most women can’t look that way without seriously jeopardizing their health. Basically no one but the fashion industry likes this look. Would it kill them to have fit looking women modeling? I knew a fellow actress who did a Dove ad. She played a dance instructor. Anyway kudos to dove for doing this.
