Update: This post no longer links to Pete’s first Onion rant. Instead it links to the site as a whole. This has been done because Pete has edited the first post putting in a graphic image and a new introductory paragraph.
Some things are just too hilarious not to share with everyone. Particularly when someone is making a fool of themselves. What’s more, they could have saved themselves the embarrassment if they had just explored the organization they link to for about 5 minutes. At least, that’s what I thought at first.
The topic in question is abortion. The web site in question is The Onion. The person in question is some guy named Pete who runs a blog titled March Together For Life: We will end abortion through our unity and the Monthly Call for Life.
The title of The Onion article is bound to twist an antiabortionist so tight she or he can’t see straight. The article is titled I’m Totally Psyched About this Abortion!
Pete was just the anti-abortionist to get his boxers in a bunch. When Pete put his diatribe against The Onion up he didn’t know that The Onion was a satirical site.
On July 7th Pete rants and raves about the evil doing “Caroline Weber” the person who supposedly wrote The Onion piece. It is very obvious from reading his post that he didn’t know that it was satire. Since he didn’t know it was satire, he also didn’t know that “Caroline Weber” was just as likely a man as a women. Or that “Caroline Weber” could be a woman with a kid that has never had an abortion just as easily as one who has had an abortion.
This is what Pete wrote on the 7th
Miss Weber, you have killed your child, which you admit is a baby/human being, intentionally. That does make you an admitted murderer. I’m not going to “condemn you to hell”, I’m going to pray for your forgiveness and for the suffering which you will endure when you realize what you have done. Every baby you see from that moment on is going to wake you up to the realization that you killed your child.
Speak out against abortion. Don’t just complain about it. Join the Monthly Call for Life at MonthlyCallForLife.com. We call, email and/or march to let our representatives know that we will not stop until they stop the killing of innocent human beings!
I showed you that for a reason. You see, once Pete knew The Onion was a satirical site he started backpedaling. He just didn’t look where he was going.
On the 10th, Pete wrote a follow up called Satire? I thought about linking it but I figure one link to his site is enough. You can find it if you try.
At one point in the post he writes this
Needless to say, a few people wanted to let me know that I was a dolt for thinking that her article was real. As a matter of fact, call me a dolt, because in the beginning I really did think it was real.
The emphasis is mine and it’s there for a reason. You see, after a long telling of a conversation that supposedly happened to him, Pete claims that his original post was also satire.
Either way, I think I did a good job of turning the “satire” right back at them, don’t you?
Hardly, Pete, because you still think that “Caroline Weber” is a real person and from these few paragraphs alone, you prove that you still think the article was trying to put forth some anti pro-life agenda.
Mess Weber summed up her article with:
“If my HMO wouldn’t have bowed to their pressure not to cover oral contraceptives, I never would’ve gotten pregnant in the first place.”
Exactly, people like her blame their pregnancies and consequential abortions on the pro-life movement. It’s all our fault that she would go to bed with a man who would be more than happy to get her pregnant.
Now, if Pete were smart he’d stop there. But Pete is obviously not smart. He follows it up with 3 more posts to date.
He posted two of them today. The first one posted today is titled Summing up the “Onion” flap. His first paragraph says
The hate mail continues to flow in like water. The “intellectual left” continues to throw every cuss word in the dictionary at me. (yes, I said “cuss”, not “curse”, that drives them nuts too…past experience, believe me)
I would love to tell him that this “intellectual left” person doesn’t give a fig if he says “cuss” instead of “curse.” I would love to but there is no way to leave any comments on any of his posts either at this site or its “home” site. By the way, the “home” site has all of these posts up as well. Pete just wants to make sure people realize he’s a dolt. I also have to take him at his word that he’s getting all these cuss (see, I even used it) words tossed at him. Actually, I don’t doubt that it is happening, but since there are no comments on either site at all the only thing we have is his word.
Once again in this post he tries to point out how The Onion is trying to “slip” in their agenda. According to Pete, the “pro-abortion” agenda is all about getting contraceptions out there. It turns out he’s against contraception as well because they “cause abortions too.”
Pete’s last post once again states that his first one was a joke. The problem is that the things he writes in the first one and in the rest just don’t come across as someone trying to be funny. The first article comes across as someone incensed that anyone would write about being happy to have an abortion and who fully believes that this is the way all pro-choice people feel. His following posts don’t help his claim because he keeps harking back to the idea that The Onion article had a secret agenda hidden inside the satire.
His last post also explains his reason for turning off the comments. He blames one person for “ruining the fun” of everyone else by posting his personal information online.
The title of this post is Blogging Without Thinking for three reasons. The first is to be a poke Pete’s title for the post that started it all “Murder without conscience.”
The second is to describe what Pete did when he wrote the first post and in all the posts that came after. He blogged without thinking through what he was doing.
You see, Pete should have shown that he had the balls (oh, wait, I’m an intellectual left, I mean testicles) to put up a post that basically said, “Boy, do I have egg on my face. They got me.” If he didn’t have the balls testicles to do that he should have deleted the post completely.
Instead Pete tried to act like the Onion piece was a joke and he was in on it. Instead he just digs his hole deeper and deeper.
The third reason for the title is the claim that this Bill person put Pete’s phone number online and told people to call him. If this person actually did this, (s)he wasn’t thinking either. Pete’s a fool. You poke fun at him and laugh at how silly he is making himself look. You don’t post his personal information online for all to see.
This is a tactic that the so-called “pro-life” people do to the employees that work in abortion clinics. It is despicable and makes the people who do it lower than pond scum. Just because the tactic is being done by a person supposedly on the left doesn’t make it any less despicable.
Anyone who decides that posting someone else’s personal information on the internet is an acceptable tactic when they don’t agree with them or flat out don’t like them is not thinking about trying to be a better person. They are only thinking about revenge and they prove themselves to be just as low as the person they are fighting against.
Hat tip to Dara for bringing the first post to my attention.

Wow, Pete sure is a quick one! Not unlike many of the pro-lifers that I know in real life…

I used to have an e-mail/chat room buddy who never got that The Onion was satire. We used to bait him and he never failed us with his long diatribes. He passed away (probably from self-induced apoplexy.) I miss him. This brought back memories.

please don’t call them pro-life. They are all pro- birth. because they certainly don’t care what happens after people are born by their actions and they all seem to be against contraception.

I loves me some Onion. I love the fact that comedians (and satirists) have the power not just to entertain us, but to truly define what is and is not funny. My all time favorite Onion headline is from the October 3rd 2001 edition: A Shattered Nation Longs To Care About Stupid Bullshit Again.

I remember seeing this masterpiece of a blog post on digg. Basically every single comment on the first post, was “jackass! this is satire!”. Clearly, he is the probably the worst loser I’ve seen online.
Can you imagine anyone sane actually seriously write an article like the onion one? Who is gleeful about abortions?

Pupsickle, Pete’s the typical fanatic in that group, all right.
Jan, I hope the memories were good ones.
Mike, I agree they aren’t really pro-life. That’s why I typically call them either “anti-abortion” or “so called ‘pro-life’” instead.
Joe, in retrospect, one of my favorites is Bush: ‘Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over’ from January 2001. These guys can also see into the future.
Joy, no, I can’t imagine any sane individual being gleeful about having an abortion. Pete is a poor loser. And he can’t even make up a marginally believable conversation between himself and a women he believes is pro-choice. It’s just the anti-abortionists’ “see they’re all cold blooded murderers!” garbage.
Dara says:
Laura, thanks for the shout out!
And Mike V., this dude is clearly anti-contraception. In one of his posts, he says “Contraception is the direction of the pro-abortion movement, because they know America is waking up to the fact that abortion kills human beings and it should not have been decriminalized by the Supreme Court.”

And people are still adding to them.

His claim of not being serious in the first post is provably wrong. Before the Onion piece, virtually no one was reading his blog, and no one from the other side of the debate had ever left a comment or any sign that they were reading the blog until after the Onion piece came out. So who was he aiming the satire at?
And while I also object to anyone posting personal information on the web in situations like this, it must be pointed out that the guy posted his own personal information himself, name, address, phone number and web site URL, on a pro-life blog–that’s where it was found, after a prolonged and arduous 30-second Google search.
Furthermore, he “shut down” the comments after he had already taken down all comments with his personal info–they don’t exist any more–so his purported reason for “shutting down” the comments is bogus. He’s just a coward, in addition to being a liar, hypocrite, and false martyr.
