Yes, teachers retire every year. We have two retiring from my school this year. This teacher, however, stands in a class by herself.
Hazel Haley is Florida’s longest-serving teacher. She has spent 69 years in front of the classroom. Haley is 89 years old.
Haley has taught at literature and composition Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Florida for 68 of her 69 years in education. She also graduated from Lakeland High School.
The late Lawton Chiles, former governor of Florida, was one of Haley’s students.
