I’ve never been to New York, but I’ve always wanted to go.

I still do. What happened on 9/11/01 or the threats to the subways today will not make me change my mind.

One day I will go to New York. I will go to a play on Broadway. I will go to one off Broadway. I will visit each and every site that I’ve always wanted to see.

While I’m in New York I will take the subways. Even if I have to go by myself.

The only thing that might change my mind are escalators. I don’t like escalators. I’m not afraid of heights but I hate tall, steep escalators.

Even really tall, steep escalators won’t make me change my mind, though. In D.C. I rode the Metro and gained access through a couple of really tall, steep escalators. My friend and I called them the Stairways to Hell or Heaven depending on which way we were going.

Sooner or later, I will visit New York. Personally, I can’t wait for the chance to arise.

Good for you! I lived there for 7 years. Everyone should go, just once. It’s the greatest city in America!
    Peace………….

I live just outside NYC and work there. The escalators are not so bad. Most have a very long staircase right next to them just for escalatorphobes. There’s always a way around if it bothers you that much. Maybe you’d even get to Macy’s and take a look at the wooden escalators!

I, too, have always wanted to go to NY. I mean the museums alone would be worth the trip!

I was there once in the 80’s, but only for an afternoon. Spend more time there. Wink

I was born in NYC, and I agree with Christie — the museums alone *are* worth the trip.

If we do not visit our cities following these acts the terrorist win – their aim is to terrorise us. I shall not stay away from London eitherSmile

I, too, would love to visit New York.

But I think I will skip the subway.
I do not like to be underground.

Went with the whole family last summer 2004 week after july 4th, was hot but had a great time. Took in all the required and not so required tour spots.

    Nice blog. Keep it up.

You know, it’s odd, but I’ve never been to NY either. I’ve been to five continents, more than 30 countries, and 31 states in the US, but never NYC. I’ve circled in a plane above it, ridden a train through it, and driven past it, but…

I think subconsciously I know that if I go there I’ll love it and want to live there forever, but I’m not ready to settle into one place yet.

Hi! I was sent by Michele. I found your comments on NYC refreshing! I was there in 1999 to attend a memorial for a friend of mine who passed away young. I walked along 5th Avenue. Lesson learned: I should have brought my Reeboks. Great site and great spirit there! Have a nice weekend!!

Are you afraid that the bottom of the escalator will suck you in and eat you as it goes round? I mean, its a valid fear…

(Not Really) lol but then, neither is my fear of roaches. So anyway.

Last time we were in the USA we flew into JFK on our way to Disney in Florida. My kid really wants to visit the statue of liberty, so next time we holiday in USA we will have to make a trip to the Big Apple

I’d love to go there too. Someday we will.

I used to be deathly afraid of NYC, my parents lived there in the 70s and made it sound like that horrible movie where the cit becomes the prison for the world after the apocalypse. Anyway, when I was in college I went to school there for a semester in my 3rd year. Now I go back at least once everyyear, and all I can think about is moving there after grad school. Ive been to some amazing places (Tokyo, Havana, New Delhi…Wink but New York stands alone.

I live in NYC and must confess to being somewhat escalator-phobic. Fortunately, NYC’s escalators tend to be far less steep than those in DC. Plus there’s usually a staircase alternative.

NYC is great right now…the fall is a very very good time to be there! There is an energy there…I need to go again! Last trip was too quick!

  18. sally says:

Oh, I hat steep escalators too!!! *Shudder*

I also live in NYC, and can’t recall the last time I was on an escalator. Hope you come and visit the city sometime and see that play. Just went to one two days ago Smile

It’s our favorite place in the world to visit, and we haven’t encountered a dreaded escalator yet! A worthy vacation goal…may I suggest Christmas time? Lovely, magical.
